Books on poker

Has anyone ever bought any of the books that were written by the poker pros? I think just about every Texas Holdem pro has written one, and I'd be curious to know which ones any of you liked. I'm leaning toward buying the one by Doyle Brunson. I mean, the man has been around the block a few times so I'm sure he has a lot of wise things to say!

I've thought about buying one of those books, but something has always stopped me, I really don't think someone can explain to you how to be successful at poker. They can tell you what they do, or give you advice, but once you've learned how to play the game, you kinda have to develop your own style and method.

From what I hear Supersystem and Supersystem 2 are the best books on the market. I plan to buy them myself.

I have bought some books. The ones I bought are, Caro's book of poker tells,Harrington on holdem volumes 1 and 2, Small stakes hold em by David Slansky,The badass girls guide to poker, all you need to know to beat the men by Toby leah Bochan and then i got free in a poker set i got for christmas play poker like the pro's by Phil Helmuth. Now how many of them have i read?
lol just 2, and the 2nd one i just started. The one i finished and this was a year ago lol was the badass girls one. It was a interesting book with humorous bits and good for someone just starting to play poker which i was when i bought it, but the majority of stuff in the book I already knew, but it did have some good tips on what to expect when playing live at a brick and mortar for the first time. It mostly deals with what ruses to use at the table against men. Its a very short read, thin book. I would only recommend this book to someone who knew nothing or barely the basics of hold em or was just looking for an entertaining read from a womens point of view. The book im working on reading now is Harrington volume 1, a very good book in my oppinion what i have read so far. Where i learned alot of hints were from emails i keep recieving from Roy Rounder, he had another name Rory something which i cant remember now, but apparently he has changed it, but anyway he offers a ebook online for sale, i never bought it but he has been sending me emails with all kinds of tips for over a year now, and i think the tips are very good, if i didnt already have all these other books to read, i would have bought his ebook just based on the tips he has sent in email. I have saved about 60 or so emails from him because i havent had time to read them all and would like to at some point. I will paste one of his tips in the forum so you can see what he talks about. the book sells for 49 bucks or so , its a ebook. But i noticed there is a deal if you join and deposit at one of 2 poker sites they will give you his book for free plus to bonus books he has written, which i think is a very good deal. I wont put what poker sites they are, because im not sure if that would be spamming or if Cathy allows it, but you can just type in his name in google and find out the info. His ebook is geared more to the ring player i think, but i think the tips can be used in both ring and tourneys. And if you want to play at the 2 sites that are offering the book for free just by depositing, then FREE is always good in my book lol I also like his style of writing, the books i already have are more mathmatical oriented i think, an di suck at math and get bored easy and get lost in all the numbers swimming in my head as im reading, he talks about things in a more understandable fashion i believe. Anyway thats my take on stuff . :D

ps............... lol
i meant to say something about Doyles books. When i started researching which poker books to buy, i researched by reading numerous reviews of what the best poker books were out there. Doyles book is considered the bible of poker books, his books were always in the top 10 of reviews. Caro's book of tells, slanskys small stakes, and harringtons books were also in the top ten .
thats why i bought them, and i plan on adding Doyles books as soon as i get through the ones i have. I have bought a few of my books on ebay, where you can get them used at a reduced price and sometimes even new for less than in the bookstores, so check that option out to save yourself some money. I also wanted to say i kind of agree with whoever said books arent the total answer or whatever, i think they offer good insight, hints, strategy, stats and such, but in the end i pretty much stick to my style of play that i feel most comfy with and my instincts and since my math sucks, pot odds just swim around in myhead and get lost lol So my version of pot odds are, ok if i call this bet will i win a lot of money or just alittle and how much of my chip stack am i risking to win this amount, is it worth the gamble, how close am i to making the money, is making the money more important to me than going for the win in this paticular tourney, all those kind of things lol ok im done lol
